Motorcycle Drive Recorder STZ-RF200WD

Motorsports CAM

SD card/recording

The KENWOOD Motorsports CAM smartphone app

The computer software, KENWOOD Motorsports CAM VIEWER

Motorsports CAM

The Motorsports CAM takes a long time to start up after I press the power button.

The recorder may require more time to read SD cards that contain a lot of saved data. Delete some of the data on the SD card, format the SD card, or replace it with a new one.

What should I do when the status LED blinks orange?

An error has occurred. Press the button to display the error code on the status LED, check the error code on page 17 of the Instruction Manual, then refer to page 38 for diagnosis and troubleshooting.

Page to Top Page top

I powered off the Motorsports CAM during a firmware update, and it will not start.

This was caused by the recorder being powered off during the update. Please disconnect the inline connector on the power cable, and then reconnect it.

Images are wavy.

This is caused by a scan delay in the CMOS sensor and is unavoidable. If an object (e.g. the body of the vehicle) appears in the viewing angle, this issue may be resolved by placing the camera so that the object does not appear in the display.

Page to Top Page top

How do I turn on Wi-Fi mode?

Long-press the button while the Motorsports CAM is ON (when only the blue or orange light is on). Wireless LAN mode is active when either the orange light is on or the blue light is blinking. Switch back by long-pressing the button.

Page to Top Page top

Videos taken in tunnels or gas stations are wavy.

An electric shutter controls brightness, and this is an unavoidable consequence of the shutter speed.

Page to Top Page top

Images are blurry. Street lights and headlights from oncoming vehicles are blurry at night.
  • Cause 1: Blur correction cannot correct images if the camera is installed in a location with considerable vibrations, so move the camera to a fixed location.
  • Cause 2: Water droplets (sea water) from driving in the rain or near the ocean could have gotten on the lens and caused it to cloud. In this case, clean the lens with a lens cleaner or moist, soft cloth.
  • Cause 3: When an object (e.g. the body of the vehicle) fills a large amount of the viewing angle, brightness is adjusted to the object close to the lens, and the image quality will become unstable. Affix the camera so that the body of the vehicle, etc. is not inside the viewing angle.

SD card/recording

The SD card was formatted on a computer, and an SD card error message appears.

The file system standard (FAT32) will become incompatible when using computers to format SD cards. Always use the Motorsports CAM to format SD cards prior to use (see page 8 of the Instruction Manual).

Page to Top Page top

I donʼt know how to format SD cards.

Connect the Motorsports CAM with the KENWOOD Motorsports CAM app and select "Format SD card" from the settings menu. (see page 21 of the Instruction Manual)
* SD cards can be formatted in the recorder even when an error message is displayed. (You can switch to wireless LAN mode by turning the device ON and long-pressing the button while the error message is being displayed)

The time shown on recorded video does not match the actual time.

Metal may be covering the GPS unit. Remove any object covering the GPS unit or install the GPS unit in a location where nothing will cover it. If the issue persists, use "Synchronize time" and "DaylightSavings" in the settings of the KENWOOD Motorsports CAM app.

Page to Top Page top

The time is not displayed in the bottom right corner of images.

Time correction is not finished. It will appear after the time is corrected with a GPS or smartphone.

Page to Top Page top

Impact recording does not activate.

The impact detection level may be set to OFF or high. Gradually reduce the level number (levels 5-1) for impact detection setting and check again.

Page to Top Page top

Impact recording activates frequently.

Affix the device so that it cannot move, then gradually increase the level number (levels 5-1) for impact detection setting and check again.

Page to Top Page top

The device creates Internal Folders.

If video cannot be saved to SD cards for some reason, video data is temporarily saved to internal memory. Video data written to the SD card the next time the device operates will be created as an "Internal" folder. The write speed of the SD card may be slow, so either format the SD card or replace it with a new one.

Page to Top Page top

Some video files do not play.
  • Cause 1: Low quality (budget) SD cards may not record properly. Use an SD card that is compatible with the Motorsports CAM.
  • Cause 2: SD card life (aging) may cause files to not write. Replace the SD card with a new one.

Page to Top Page top

How is "The number of videos that can be recorded" on page 43 of the Instruction Manual defined?

One set of front video and rear video is equal to "1". (For example, the maximum number of impact videos for a 32GB SD card is 20 front video files and 20 rear video files, for a total of 40 files.)

Page to Top Page top

What do the time stamps on the left and right side of a file name mean?
e.g.
F_20210616170237_20210616170642_N.MP4
N_20210616170237_20210616170642_N.NMEA

F_20210616170237_20210616170642_N.MP4
20210616170237 The time stamp on the left indicates when continuous recording began. It is updated when the Motorsports CAM is turned on, receives a GPS signal, or returns to continuous recording mode from wireless LAN mode.
20210616170642 The time stamp on the right indicates when video recording began. It is the same time shown on the first frame of the video.

Page to Top Page top

Please tell me about file structure.

The file structure for A‗YYYYMMDDhhmmss‗YYYYMMDDhhmmss‗B.MP4 is as follows.
A…F: Front camera, R: Rear camera, N: NMEA file
The 14 digits on the left…The time continuous recording began or the time that time correction finished (UTC).
The 14 digits on the right…The time that the file began recording (in the set time zone).
* If time synchronization fails, then it will be the previous file +1 (YYYY: year, MM: month, DD: day, hh: hour, mm: minute, ss: second)
B…N: Continuous recording, E: Impact recording, M: Manual recording
MP4…Extension

The KENWOOD Motorsports CAM smartphone app

The SSID for the recorder, STZ-RF200WD‗(serial number), does not appear as an available network in my phoneʼs Wi-Fi settings.
  • Cause 1: Wireless LAN mode may not be turned on, so switch to wireless LAN mode.
  • Cause 2: The area may have too many wireless LAN networks and so the device might not be detected. Move to an area without wireless LAN networks and try again.
  • Cause 3: The device may already be connected to another smartphone. Disconnect the device from the other smartphone.

Page to Top Page top

The password does not match the wireless LAN network and connection is not possible.

The password may have been entered incorrectly. Reset the password using the "Wireless LAN password" option in the settings of the KENWOOD Motorsports CAM app and enter the default password: 12341234.

Page to Top Page top

Even when long-pressing the button, the device does not switch to wireless LAN mode and instead goes to manual recording.

The device may have registered the press as a short press, so try to long-press the button again.

Page to Top Page top

Iʼve switched to wireless LAN mode, but the device and my phone wonʼt connect.

The device may already be connected to a different smartphone. Disconnect the device from the other smartphone.

Page to Top Page top

After opening "Camera angle settings" from the main menu, a "Camera could not connect" message appears.

The inline connector on the camera cable may not be connected. Check the connection of the inline connectors for the front and rear cameras. (See page 15 of the Instruction Manual.)

The smartphine sceen locks when either downloading a video or deleting a video file and interrups the process.

Some smartphone devices may automatically lock the screens and interrupt the process. Do not lock the screen when erasing files during a download, or set automatic screen lock to OFF in the smartphoneʼs settings. (Even if interrupted, the process can be restarted by unlocking the screen.)

Can I still use the KENWOOD Motorsports CAM app if I see a message saying "Information may have been extracted" after launching the app and trying to extract data from the device?

It is unclear without confirming what is happening, but it could be related to your smartphoneʼs security settings or security apps. It is probable that the network environment when connecting the Motorsports CAM and the smartphone is different from the normal connection, and the message is displayed as a reminder.
The KENWOOD Motorsports CAM does not contain any functions that collect data or send it to servers, so the data would not be extracted. There should be no issue in continuing to use the device.

The computer software, KENWOOD Motorsports CAM VIEWER

The program cannot play files normally (The files exist, but it wonʼt play either front or rear videos).

Some computers using AMD brand processors are not able to play videos normally. Check using a general purpose computer or a computer using Intel processors. (Operations have been verified on computers using Intel processors, but the symptoms may persist on home-built computers)

Page to Top Page top

Multiple error messages appear when I try to play a video file that didnʼt record normally (corrupted file).

Abnormal behavior may occur when the operation system tries to play files that cannot be played. Let the program run undisturbed, and when the error message disappears, close the program and launch it again.

The map does not display.
  • Cause 1: The computer is not connected to the Internet and cannot obtain map data. Connect the computer to the Internet and try again.
  • Cause 2: It may not display if the transmission speed has slowed down because of the time of day. Wait a while and then check the map display again.

Page to Top Page top

Vehicle location information for the map display was not obtained or the location of the vehicle is incorrect.
  • Cause 1: Metal may be covering the GPS antenna. Remove any object covering the GPS antenna, or move the GPS antenna to a location where nothing will cover it. If the issue persists, run "Synchronize time" in the KENWOOD Motorsports CAM app settings.
  • Cause 2: It is difficult to obtain GPS signals in environments that might disrupt satellite signals, such as inside tunnels, in mountain areas, on streets surrounded by buildings, and beneath underpasses. Move to a different location and check if location information is received correctly.

Page to Top Page top

The G-sensor chart does not align with the vehicle directions (front/back, left/right, up/down).

Attach the unit so that it aligns with the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical axes of the vehicle. (see page 12 in the Instruction Manual)
* The impact detection level is not affected if they do not align.
