New Product Announcement KENWOOD Corporation presented a prototype of its DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial) digital TV system for terrestrial broadcasting at the IFA (International Funkausstellung Berlin) in Berlin, Germany from 28 August until 5 September, 1999. Product Development Background DVB-T is a digital TV system for terrestrial broadcasting that uses a multi-carrier modulation system called OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). DVB-T does not suffer from multi-path and fading problems, making it superior to current analogue TV technology. Moreover, even when installed in a moving vehicle a DVB-T receiver provides clear pictures and good music quality. And since the technology is digital, multiplex transmission of maps and other navigation information is possible as a supplementary data service offered in parallel with the video/sound broadcast. DVB-T broadcasting for mobile reception is still in the testing phase, but making use of mobile reception technology developed for DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) applications, KENWOOD is designing a car DVB-T receiver intended for future marketing.
