KENWOOD Completes Test Course with Various Road Surfaces at Nagano Plant that Helps Improve Quality and Speed Up Development of Car Electronics KENWOOD Corporation (President & CEO: Haruo Kawahara; Head office: Hachioji, Tokyo) completed a test course at Nagano Plant (KENWOOD Nagano Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of KENWOOD), the main factory for the car electronics business, which is aimed to contribute to improving the quality of mainstay car electronics products and speed up their development.
The new test course is expected to play a very important role in the process of improving the quality of car electronics products, which are sold on an OEM basis and on the consumer market. With the completion of this facility, we will enhance the quality certification tests which are conducted under adverse conditions, which are characteristic to car electronics, such as shock and vibration. We will also establish a system that can promptly feed back data from the tests of car-mounted electronics to engineering teams, resulting in reduced product development lead times. The test course is designed to simulate not only roads in Japan, which has a high proportion of pavement, but also any other imaginable roads in the world, providing Belgian (stone pavement) paths, cobblestone roads, uneven streets, and those paved with river stones. The course enables us to test electronics mounted on a car, with regard to sound skipping caused by shock while driving and the response of an electronics-mounted car to periodic vibration rattle noise. In conjunction with the construction of this test course, KENWOOD transferred part of the engineering sectors under the Car Electronics OEM Division and the Car Electronics Consumer Division to Nagano Plant from the Hachioji Business Center as of October 1. Through these efforts, we established a system that can speedily feed back data acquired on the test course to the engineering teams. Using the new test course, while integrating “technology” and “product manufacturing,” KENWOOD will realize a structure that maximizes the synergy effects produced from a chain of innovation, improve product quality, shorten development times, and reduce costs through quality improvement at the design phase. By doing so, we will further raise the competitiveness of our car electronics products.
