KENWOOD Corporation (President and CEO: Haruo Kawahara; Head Office: Hachioji, Tokyo) is pleased to announce that it has provided its high-quality sound technology that it accumulated in the field of pure audio systems to ZMP INC. (President and CEO: Hisashi Taniguchi; Head Office Meguro, Tokyo). ZMP INC. announced today the release of “miuro,” the world’s first commercially available network music player with built-in autonomous movement features that utilize our technology.
"Miuro" is the kind of network music player, equipped with autonomous movement features built using state-of-the-art robotic technology, which enables users to enjoy music any time and anywhere they choose, in their own homes. This product realizes ZMP's founding business philosophy: "Proposing to create an enjoyable and convenient lifestyle using robotic technology and services."
KENWOOD has provided its sound quality technology from the same viewpoint as with pure audio systems, aiming for high-quality sound based on the concept of "reproduction of original sound" to allow "miuro," as a music player, to reproduce high-quality sound without detracting from its leading-edge design which is emblematic of the autonomous movement features.
As in the case of pure audio systems, we at KENWOOD adhered to "reproduction of original sound," aiming for the kind of sound quality that offers a spreading, low-pitched sound and yet provides a clear sound range, and we succeeded in reproducing a well-balanced mix of low-, mid- and high-pitched sounds. More specifically, we helped to bring the music to life by separating the non-directional woofer that reproduces low- and mid-pitched sounds, and the soft-domed tweeter that reproduces high-pitched sound. At the same time, we enclosed the system in a double-walled structure to prevent vibration and resonance, and thereby realized a rich and spreading sound. Furthermore, with our acoustic field control technology, we successfully elevated the acoustic field to the level of the listener's ears even when "miuro" is located close to the listener's feet, and made it possible to reproduce surround sound.
KENWOOD has a track record of providing its acoustic technology for use in products developed by companies in other lines of business and this is the third time it has provided its technology.
Under its corporate vision of "reaching out to discover, inspire and enhance the enjoyment of life," KENWOOD is committed, through these efforts and initiatives, to opening up new frontiers in "sound entertainment," aiming to offer more and more people the opportunity to enjoy high-quality sound. |

Comments by KENWOOD Corporation's Sound Meister Hayakawa
KENWOOD creates sound by upholding the concept of "reproduction of original sound" which gives people a sense of "presence." This means they feel as if they are listening to a live performance at a concert hall or jazz house. With our acoustic technology and expertise in high-quality sound that we have accumulated in the field of pure audio systems, we have been able to shape "miuro" into a product that deserves high recognition as a music player.
I will be delighted if our customers can create new lifestyles and more fully enjoy their lives by using "miuro," a product that should enable them to enjoy music in high-quality sound, anytime and anywhere they choose. |
